Discover Preschool provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of families. We recognize the importance of applying knowledge of child development to program practices, while respecting and responding to the uniqueness of each child. Individually and in the group. We strive to insure that all programs follow the Massachusetts Department of Education guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice.
The
teachers design the daily curriculum to be flexible within a supportive
framework of routine. There is a careful balance between individual, small and
large group experiences. Children
are encouraged to explore, question, discover and construct knowledge through
the provided experiences. In each of the Discover Preschool classrooms, children are
engaged in play throughout the space.
We believe that through play and meaningful interactions with teachers and
peers, children learn best.
The teachers set the environment to encourage exploration and discovery so that children will construct the knowledge and acquire the skills they are developmentally ready to achieve. The teachers plan ample opportunities to develop and fine tune small and large motor growth. There is also attention to children’s sensory needs, literacy development, and number sense in each of the learning centers. These experiences give children the opportunities they need to achieve reachable and developmentally appropriate goals.
“Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”
