Our Philosophy
Discover Preschool provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children while also responding to the needs of families. We recognize the importance of applying knowledge of child development to program practices, while respecting and responding to the uniqueness of each child individually and in the group. We strive to ensure that all programs follow the Massachusetts Department of Education guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice.
The teachers design the curriculum to be flexible within a supportive framework of routine. There is a careful balance between individual, small, and large group experiences. Children are encouraged to explore, question, discover, and construct knowledge through the many new and fun activities provided each day. In each of the Discover Preschool classrooms, children are engaged in play throughout the space. We believe the current research that through play and meaningful interaction with teachers and peers, children learn best.
The teachers set the environment to encourage exploration and discovery so that children will construct the knowledge and acquire the skills they are developmentally ready to achieve. The teachers plan ample opportunities to develop and fine tune small and large motor growth. There is also attention to children’s sensory needs, literacy development, and number sense in each of the learning centers. These experiences give children the opportunities they need to achieve reachable and developmentally appropriate goals.
What Our Parents Say
We are so grateful that our boys went to Discover. Their teachers were incredibly supportive and compassionate. We knew that our children were in good hands and in a safe, loving environment. We would choose Discover again in a heartbeat.
I can’t say enough about how much my family loves Discover! The thing that has impressed me the most is how well the teachers know and love their students. Every time I’ve read a progress report, I’ve been positively overwhelmed by how clearly and thoughtfully the teachers have described my children. They capture the tiny nuances and personality traits that are so special to me as a mother. These reports show me two things that highlight the specialness of Discover: 1) my children have been so comfortable at school (even just two mornings a week for my youngest!) that they behave as their true selves and 2) the teachers really care and pay attention to each child in order to know them so well. I am beyond grateful for all the wonderful experiences my children have had at Discover. I can’t imagine spending these preschool years any other way!
Discover is such a sweet, nurturing place. It was truly a second home for my children. Everyone at the school genuinely cares about the kids. I always felt so reassured at drop off knowing my daughters were being well taken care of by such warm, loving people. They had so much fun at preschool and entered kindergarten very well prepared.
